Goin' Out

April 22, 2011
Bolanos and I meet Ela, her two cousins, and her aunt, who’s in her fifties. We go to McSoreleys, but leave because they have a table and we don’t. Aaron complains about me being a dick and walking ahead of everyone. I tell him to get some better conversation so I might join. I’m a nice guy.
Scott comes with his friend that we’ve never met. We ask if he goes to Columbia too. He replies Yes with a shrug and a tone of “Yeah, I guess it’s some random school I go to.” I make fun of that attitude and joke that he’s responding as if he goes to Devry Technical. They go to get a drink and Aaron comments that I literally just attacked someone that I just met for the first time. I realize that I just really came really bad. I have such good etiquette.
I split up and meet Ela and her fam. These classy guys they meet bring us to Continental and get some Rumple Minze, which is a hilarious shot. It tastes like Listerine and these college motherfuckers just love it. I split up with them because I’m following these college kids to some shit bars. We hop around and finally go to Coyote Ugly where these is a midget behind the bar. We also find out that this guy got a performance where the bartender pours liquor into her mouth and spits it into the guy and whips him with a belt, all for the price of $20.

Bolanos and I go into the city with tentative plans. Things fall through and we end up in the Lower East Side, which is a boom and a bust. Iggy’s a meh bar. Whiskey Ward is a sweet dive, but super crowded. St. Jerome is a coolish place, but it was quite dead. We have to check out that area more though because it’s so much smaller than the EV, so there’s so much less wasted time walking and walking around. There seem to be really cool bars there. And most importantly, the place is so much more attractive. Left and right, every girl was tall, gorgeous, and model quality. We give up, Baoguette it, International, 1:19 train home.

Back

February 27, 2011
I’m finally back to NY and it’s my time to go out. I’m feeling a bit sluggish so I grab a diet Monster and I’m ready to make moves. I “pregame” dinner with some leftover Chinese food, which is perfect for that purpose. Meet up with Bola and Miah, off to downtown at a new bar that has the shot and Genny deal that we love from International Bar. We have Aaron, Lydia, Josh, Angela, and Scott to show up. We end up moving out to a few bars that I have looked up, but we give up on them because they’re crowded. I would like to go to Banjo Jim’s still sometime though. Live music, no cover.
We go to a usual spot then, Doc Holiday’s and then off to Sophie’s. The three of us get going and we can’t catch a cab. Then we go to the subway and wait around for that, but we give up on that. Now we have only about 15-20 minutes to get to Penn Station, so I say we just give up, get some food, and take it easy. However, a cab rolls up and we decide to go for it. We jump out of the cab and the clock is showing that we don’t have time so Miah and I run off. We get onto the train and realize that the clock was wrong and we had a few minutes. We made it with maybe 5 minutes to spare. We regret the fact that we didn’t get food. Boom, Bolanos who was split from us during the rush to the train shows up with a slice of pizza.

Atron told me to post in the blog because it’s been forever. However, the blog feels boring despite going out these days. I don’t really have much to say. We’ve been going out, but hitting up Sophie’s and Double Down for the past infinite weeks.
We did finally get to see Avi again after not hanging out with the man for a while.
The after work naps have gotten to be a habit, so I cut a day off of work. There are only a few months left until school so I should try to do some stuff. Sleeping like a bitch before 12:00AM will probably be a cure so I’ll need to start doing that.
I’ll get back to ya’ll on what I start doing these days. I already posted on a Law School forum to find out what work I could do for law school, like readings, learning how to write outlines for cases, specific cases that I’ll be reading, etc.

To start “doin’ thangs,” I read this:
http://lesswrong.com/lw/3w3/how_to_beat_procrastination/

It can be quite helpful and what I got out of it for me was to make it a “game.” I have a competitive aspect in my personality and using that to do things is something that I should have been doing for a while.
For example, this means setting away a certain amount of time for a certain task and only doing that without any distractions. This could mean unplugging my router and not letting myself watch TV in the background. Having clear, defined, yet reasonable goals helps achievement.
Another thing is rewards. One can reward themselves with something. It could be a treat (especially since I’ve been trying to eat healthy and avoid carbs, sweets, bad fats, etc.).

5:45-
I told myself I could have some kettle corn as long as I devoted a full hour to only music. I’ve been trying to expand and explore my musical palette recently. It’s not that I no longer enjoy the music that I listen to, but I’ve just felt like I’ve started enjoying more music and it’s a shame that I keep saying, “Well I’m not sure what I like, but I like more ‘stuff’.”
I tried out Nina Simone’s debut album, Nina Simon Sings the Blues. Keeper.
I found some Bing Crosby on YouTube and though I’m not sure I’m really down for that.
I listened to a new hip hop group, Shabazz Palaces. They have an unbelievable production sound, but I gave that a pass.
Gossip, I’m real down for. Similar to Scissor Sisters in the “gay”ness around them, but definitely a very different sound.
I found a cool playlist on YouTube of Susan Tedeschi and a few other blues artists. The blues won’t ever leave me, I can promise you that.

6:45-
I pull out my guitar and devote almost an hour to practice and then learn some blues licks on my electric thanks to YouTube. With such a good resource (the Internet), there’s no reason to waste money on personal lessons or anything when you want to learn something. It really is just putting in the effort.

It’s time to eat and I’m hungry. I agree to go with Spamps, Caroline, and Miah to get wings. However, I back out because I’ve been waiting a while. When I back out, they’re outside my house so I do tag along. Long story short, I should drive myself because somehow the dinner takes 4 hours. And this is no fancy place, it literally is eat wings and leave. No sir. Well those are my only “classes” for the day.
