August 26, 2008
It’s been a while again since I’ve blogged. Now that people are slowly gone, only Alon, Miah, CNF, Josh, and Evan are around. Two days ago, Josh, Evan, and Scott had their own thing to do.
I drive and pick up Miah. We grab some Wendy’s and decide to sit at the park near him since there’s nowhere else to go. We hang there from 12:40 to 3:30 talking all this random stuff. One is how my semester will turn on compared my slow and tame previous semester. In the end, I think it couldn’t be more boring, though I can’t imagine it being that much different socially.
Other than that, I’ve watched the first 4 seasons of The Wire in a couple weeks. After seeing that string of brilliant television, I really have to place it high above almost all the television that I’ve watched.
From there, I move onto The Sorpranos and half way into the first season, I’m quite disappointed. It’s a decent drama, but I would prefer Six Feet Under. As for the “gangster”genre, I find it to be plain, generic Godfather/Godfellas garbage (I probably should use “overrated’ instead, but four word alliteration and hyperbole can’t be turned down). The subject matter is uninspired and brings little to the table. Simon’s portrayal of Baltimore’s street hustling in The Wire and Milch’s gritty Western small town power struggle in Deadwood put The Sorpranos absolute shame.
However, I still have the rest of the Season 1 and other seasons to go. The show better pick up quick to even close to the echelon of its HBO sibling shows.
(And as usual, Stickam has been ruling this man’s life for quite a while.)
