MONTREAL BITCHES!

March 12, 2010
CNF’s leaving for Pittsburgh, so I go into the city blind. People aren’t picking up their phones. I get home at 7:30 and need to make the 8:20. Pick out an outfit. Change. Get some pregaming done. Sweater and coat on. Wallet, keys, iPod, camera, cellphone, cigs. Check. Get a pregaming bottle ready. Run out the door. We have 20 minutes to walk to the station. Run run run! Walk fast!
Call people on the way. I’m blind. People aren’t picking up. I don’t know what the plans are. I just assume things are going to work out. I get into the city and things get figured out. We go to Gobo. I personally had a horrible dish and it took a while, so that sort of slowed down the night.
Unfortunately, Kim didn’t have an ID on her to try to get into Fat Cat. I felt bad that we couldn’t hang out with her and Candace for the night. CNF and I cab to the East Village. I was texting Jill throughout the night because she’s also in the city, but nothing gets happening.
CNF and I go to a bar and chill out. We meet up with Stefan for a second. We run over to Baoguette quickly and catch the 1:19 to get home.

March 13, 2010
At night, we go to get soup dumplings, despite the shitty rain. Evan and CNF are home. We picked up some gin. We go to Alon’s while the kids play Smash Bros. Josh, Kenny, and Doug are there as well. There’s some drinking and cocktail making. My drinks don’t turn out well. Fresh lemon, seltzer, and gin is fine. I don’t need no more than that. We play some poker. That’s about it.

March 20, 2010
Spamps is back from Ithaca. Hasan comes over and he doesn't want to go out for the night. People seem busy and stuff, but Evan turns out to be free. I make sure that shit gets rolling so that we can go to Astoria. We pick up Spamps and then Evan. Scott is getting home a bit later so he meets us there. We end up at Bohemia Garden, but this time we're acutally outside because the weather finally warmed up. We have a few drinks and then move onto Sweet Afton. I wanted to come back for their Pat LaFrieda burger and also their Sweet Tea cocktail.
I get Erdem a drink as well. We then move onto El Rey del Taco. Boy are their tacos good. Scott and Evan already left for home by now instead of meeting us, so we end up leaving too.

March 21, 2010
There's apparently supposed to be a BBQ gathering going on today. People can't plan for shit and even attempt an epic fail at AIM chat. I let the kids soak in their incompetence. We don't get things started for three hours until 8ish and it's with just Spamps and I shopping at the supermarket. We make burgers. I make a salad that gets finished quick fast. We chill there for a while until it's moved to my place. People stay for a little bit and then head home.

March 22, 2010
It’s a food tour day, but with only Miah and I. We drive into the city around 4:00. We go to Prosperity Dumpling. Then I get a belt on Canal. It probably would cost $15 at a “real” story and a belt is just a strip of leather that I can’t see myself spending much on. The same goes for a wallet, but I don’t find out that I really like.
We then go to Banh Mi on Mott Street. Then to Mei Lei bakery for a pork bun. Then Teado for some tea drinks. Then we go to the East Village at night. Evan and Jonah are busy. Miah and I slum around for a while. I try a burger at Mark. Then next to This Little Piggy Had Roast Beef. Had some food and got stuffed like a beast. Read about it at dweez.yelp.com.
At night, Scott, Avi, Candace, Damien, and Kim come buy to chill for a bit.

March 25, 2010
I leave work early and it’s time for my drive to Binghamton to stay the night and leave the morning for MONTREAL. I drop off my mom at JFK for New Orleans. The drive is pretty long to Binghamton. Then again, it really isn’t but I never go on a long distance trip. I stop at Sonic on the way, which is really blegh food. Pennsylvania also doesn’t have a strict no cell policy so I speak to Corinne and Bolanos on the way because listening to the radio and singing along only goes so far.
I arrive to stay at Atron’s place. Murray meets up with us for Lost Dog Café, one of Binghamton’s best restaurants, though that doesn’t say much. We then go back to his place and pregame a bit. We go in between The Rat, a pseudo bar/club and Tom and Marty’s, an Irish dive bar. My pregame went pretty wild and I stopped at one point to grab some late night pizza. I actually liked their crust, though Aaron tells me that it’s shit pizza and that I was drunk.
And boy, Binghamton is awesome. The drinks are cheap as fuck. It’s special’s on Thursday and you get a plastic mug of beer for $2.50. Then, you can order whatever you like. I order a Jack and coke. It’s more like a cup of ice with two shots of Jack Daniels and a splash of coke. That motherfucker was strong as the Hulk. I also get to meet the two girls from Atron’s frat that we’re going with to Montreal. I get pretty bombed and make an inappropriate drunk dial involving the words “naked” and “boobs” dozens of times. Classy man.

March 26, 2010
We wake up at 9:00 for our departure. Claudia and Erin are in the front for the drive. Murray, Atron, and I are in the back. After some breakfast, we back our 5-6 hour drive. We’re supposed to get there by 5:00, but we get lost when the GPS gives up working on us and we drive around like chickens with their heads cut off. We finally get to the destination around 7:00. Their hotel is downtown and it feels sort of like a mini-NYC’s 5th Ave.
We go their touristy downtown area and find some random restaurant. We hadn’t eaten since 9:00 that morning. People were famished. After that, we go back to the hotel to pregame for the nightlife. Us boys have a bottle of Red Label Johnny Walker to go through. We leave at 11:00ish for Crescent Ave., which is their touristy area and nightlife. We look around and find a place that let us in because we’re Americans. There’s no cover, but a coat check cover. Aaron’s drink is weak as hell. The place is actually really empty though we get to meet a man named Frank “Barrio.” He’s French Canadian.
On a sidenote: Montreal is in Quebec. Their official language is French. Signs are in French. The people speak it. You’re not in Canada where people are just pretending to be American, you’re actually in a different country.
Anyway, our boy Frank is a silly French man. He’s wearing a silly shirt that has two thumbs pointing to his face that reads, “Ladies Love This Guy.” He’s French. He’s funny. He’s drunk. He wants us to add him on Facebook. It sounds like “Mario,” but it’s spelt “b a r i e x s t r x z a.” Actually, we don’t remember how it was spelt, but all we know is that it’s confusing as shit.
After standing around the empty dance floor for a bit, I decide that I should take a cab to my friend Oceane’s place where I’m staying. She apparently waited for me at her train station because I thought I would get in earlier. I also turned off my phone because of the roaming. She didn’t want to go out and I didn’t want to keep her up so I split with the boys at 12:30, grab my shit at the hotel, leave their keys, and take a cab to her apartment. We catch up on things, watch Slumdog Millionaire until real late when I pass out.

March 27, 2010
Atron wakes up and gives me a call. I ride the metro to the hotel. I meet them for brunch. The place is called “Eggspectation” and is a breakfast/brunch place. The place is pretty delicious and busy. Then again, their fire alarm is going off and they ran out of water. We are so thirsty from the salty breakfast and they have to close down the restaurant after that issue, while we still have to deal with not having water.
Then, we walk around and go to their “underground” mall. It’s fucking huge. We hang out there for a bit and then I pass out for a nap in the hotel while the kids have a drink. For dinner, we go to another area in search for something more authentic than the touristy downtown area.
We go to St. Laurient. We find a restaurant called Jano, which has some pretty decent cred looking at the articles on the inside. It’s Portuguese with grilled meats. After that, we go back to chill out and pregame a bit. This time, we do wine because we’re out of Red Label. Oceane had plans to come out, but she didn’t want to. We take a cab to the St. Laurient area and find out a hella lot of clubs. There are loads of lines and I’ve really never seen such a concentration of people for nightlife.
Unfortunately, we find out that all the clubs need you to be on the guestlist. Us naive Americans did not know of this and we’re pretty stranded. Instead, we go to this awesome Irish pub. No line. No pretentiousness. No guest list. Done deal.
There’s an amazing band playing. I immediately order a shot and beer and scream out some Janis Joplin while singing along to the band. After walking around in the cold and bored, this pub suddenly became cloud nine.
After an hour or so, I take a cab to Oceane’s because I again didn’t want to keep her up waiting for me.

March 28, 2010
I wake up and it’s the same routine. Oceane’s busy today with her friend, but she said she’d get dinner later. I owe her at least something for letting me stay for the weekend. I meet with the group and we go to brunch at the Old Montreal area. It’s a shit lunch at a small café. We then walk around where I end up buying a children’s size “FBI Feminine Body Inspector” t-shirt. I then try glaces, which is basically their version of ice cream or gelator or something.
We then move back to the hotel. Murray, Atron, and I split up from the girls. We try some Burger King poutine. It’s meh. Poutine by the way is delcious. Fries, gray, cheese. It’s one hell of a combination. We go back to the hotel and chill out. We then go to Chinatown, which is actually pretty legit, though nothing like NYC. However, it’s Sunday night and it’s dead as hell. We go to a bubble tea lounge that’s for younger people. Murry, Atron, and I meet up with Oceane and have dinner there. We then go for a boys’ night out.
We get back and start pregaming the Captain Morgan that we bought. However, Atron and I beast it out and we realized that a liter is not enough for three of us. We move out and find a strip club despite me not really being interested. We get charged a cover and then the bouncer hustles us for a $2 tip. It’s pretty silly. We also have to pay for an expensive beer and the girls try to get a lap dance for us. They’re onto our cheap ways and we eventually leave. We find a place in St. Denis. Cheap pitchers and actually quite a few people, despite it raining. By then, I’m drunk. Atron’s real drunk.
After stopping myself into the second huge pitcher that seemed to have infinite beers, we walked finally to La Basquise, a famous poutine place that Anthony Bourdain visited. We go through two plates of it while Atron is mighty shitfaced.
We take a cab back and Atron is passed out in it. Murray and I stand outside for a cigarette. However, we lost Atron and really hope he got lost. When we go up, we find out that he somehow slipped away and simply passed out with his face down and all his clothes still on. I end up staying on the floor because Oceane has class in the morning.

March 29, 2010
I don’t know about Atron, but I’m pretty hungover as fuck. However, it’s a long drive and after breakfast, some water, and sleep, I’m feeling okay. We get there at night. Murray and I stay over at Atron’s until we leave tomorrow. A long driving day.

March 30, 2010
We wake up and it’s time to move out. We drive through the shit rain and it’s a long while. I drop Murray in the Bronx and Atron at home. Good thing there wasn’t traffic for me to deal with. I get home by 5:00ish at least.

March

March 2, 2010
My diet has been going well. I got to keep up the protein in my diet. Lets go with yesterday. I eat many meals, which is good.
1 serving plain oatmeal, 1 tblsp honey, cinnamon, half scoop whey protein
Large ice coffee, whole milk, Equal
1 serving non fat plain yogurt, half serving low fat granola, half scoop whey
Half can of light Campbell’s Select, 1 serving beans
Bok choy, ½ serving steamed chicken
Half serving rice, steamed veg, ½ serving chicken
I’m down to 130ish these days. This from 139 in beginning of fall. I’ve also put on muscle other than just losing weight. I keep pics for personal update on how I’m doing.

March 5, 2010
Hasan backs out on going into the city. I pregame and Miah comes over. We walk over to take the 9:20. We meet Stefan, CNF, Jonah, Atron, and Kenny at Village Pourhouse. I try to get people moving. We finally move until International Bar. Not bad and cheap as hell. Then we move again to Crif Dogs. We can’t get into PDT. We walk around and meet at a bar. We then walk around like crazy. We run into like 4-5 bars and shit’s dead so we just stay at Hop Devil. Our baneee!
Anyway, Miah Kenny and I run into Brandon at LIRR because he came from Boston. We take the 3:20 train and we walk back. A long night.

March 6, 2010
It’s Miah’s 22nd at 12 tonight. We plan on going to soup dumplings. However, we end up picking up Elena and CNF and going to Arepas Café with Kenny, Hasan, and Miah. A mighty yummy meal.
We then go to Sweet Afton, which is loaded with older people so we end up leaving. We then go to Bohemian Hall Beer Garden, which is apparently our new spot. Atron meets with us. We hang there, while there’s some stuff with Elena and an old Spainard. Long story.
Candace comes and we coordinate going to a dive bar that’s doing karaoke. However, the place is pretty dead. I’m cool with drunk karaoke, but people are too sober and hate it. We then get some ridiculously good tacos at El Rey del Taco. We then go home. I’m really tired and pass out.

End of Feb

February 27, 2010
Aaron texts me that him and CNF are coming back next weekend for their grandparents. We’re going to do a classy lunch at Jean Georges or Eleven Madison Park. He asks about a dress code. I say that it’s a bit serious. Not suit and tie, but bizz cas. He asks if “tigger” is allowed. I don’t get the joke until I finally get reminded of the time that we went out for Scott’s birthday in the city. Jeremiah was wearing an orange Tigger shirt. Yes, the character from Winnie the Pooh.
Atron shows me a picture that is classic. The white shorts are enough to get me smiling. Rolled up socks. It doesn’t stop. It’s also weird with him, CNF, and Bolanos in the background dressed up.
Sorry, I don’t mean to be a hater. I hope it’s just a harmless laugh I’m trying to have. And hey, I’ve never seen that shirt again. Good job!
Before going out, I put my computer in front of my exercise bike. I go on for 1 hour even though it’s hard to get your heartbeat in the “zone” doing that. Running is better, but it’s cooold. We make dinner plans to go to Little Pepper in Flushing. Read my review on dweez.yelp.com.
After that, it’s before 8:00 and we decide to go to Astoria. It’s a night to get drunk, so I buy a bottle of whiskey. Miah has some. Hasan has to drive. I have half Diet Dr Pepper and half whiskey while we’re at the hookah bar. Boy is that a stiff drink. I get a good buzz going while sketchy drinking at that place. The hookah is a great combo with that drunk buzz I got going.
At 10-11:00, we move onto Beer Garden. I immediately run into a order shots of Becherovka. If you’ve never had this Czech liquor, get some immediately. It’s cinnamon and gingerbread or a “Christmas” shot. Derrricious.
Then onto a Czech pilsner, Staropramen. Hasan and I go out for a cigarette and a girl goes out asking for a night. For some reason, I get the random compliment that I look like a “little model.” I’ll take that as a compliment. What am I going to do that I’m short other than look amazing?
I end up getting her cute friends Rachel and Stefanie. We hang out for a bit. I end up playing the “what’s different between these two images” game, which is annoying because I suck at it. I pick up a number, but they’re from Jersey drinking away that two of them broke up with their b/fs. They end up leaving. We leave soon after. They get cart, but I avoid because I’m on a diet. There’s a dumb bet where Hasan thinks there are zero restaurants in the city with three Michelin stars. He loses $30. Nice job.

February!!

January 30, 2010
Jenn’s back from Seoul, though she’s back at school. I tell her that she has a lot of stuff to fill me in on and I tease her with some of the shit that’s been going on here. Come to think of it, there has been quite a few fun stories.
Haven’t really been doing much these days. Chilling with the dudes here and there. Corinne was in the city the past two days so we hung in the city. Tonight is Kenny’s b-day, so I guess we’ll see what happens.
I’m really disappointed that I haven’t hit up restaurant week yet. However, they don’t do Saturdays, which messed things up because I made ressies earlier in the week and didn’t realize. Tomorrow is a meh day because restaurants have to go out of their way to participate on Sundays. Also, it’s the day before so I can’t reservations. Hopefully something will work out soon.

February 2, 2010
Work has been the usual. It’s pretty awesome that I’ve gotten tutoring duties for my boss’ son here and there. It pays $25 off the books, which is ridic. I only do a few hours a week though.
I haven’t been really getting good sleep recently, only 5 hours for the past few nights. This is coming from someone who tries to be responsible.
The diet is going well. My new thing is soup. It barely has fat. It has protein in the stock, the meat, and beans. It fills you up through the liquid and vegetables. The only issue is the pasta I put in, but that isn’t bad since it’s only a fraction of what you’d eat from any straight pasta dish. The soup itself doesn’t actually have a fair amount of pasta if you think of it that way.
For the rest of the week, I’m excited for hitting up Restaurant Week. We’ll see how that goes. Also, Bolanos is visiting for the J Dilla tribute in Brooklyn with Tim and Sam, so that sounds like a cool weekend.
I’m watching loads of TV as usual. Nothing exceptional is on though.
I’ve been listening to Howard Stern/YouTubing (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 gameplays for some reason though. Dunno why I’m intrigued, but it’s way too much investment to get into that)/Hulu. It’s been so long since I’ve listened to music. I tried today.
The Animal Collective is interesting, but I got tired of it quickly. Maybe it needs more listens. The xx album is pretty good. Despite loving “big” sounds like baroque pop, I do enjoy how the band utilizes minimalism. I tried The Revolution by Miranda Lambert. The critics cream over it. I’m not really sure why though. I can listen to it because it’s poppy country music. Well, at least not to the point of Taylor Swift at least, even though I do enjoy my Taylor.
I need to find new stuff to listen to.

February 14, 2010
Jenn apparently was home for the weekend, but we haven’t really spoken and we didn’t get to catch up.
Erdem, Miah, and I have to gone to Bohemian Beer Garden twice this weekend. Last night, a fucking guy was laying on the table and his friends were there. Then he leans over and starts vomiting on the ground. Miah and I are sitting at a corner table. I get a wiff and fuck this man. I feel a bit of gagging and I split the fuck out of there.

February 19, 2010
At night, Hasan and I drive in to meet Stefan for dinner at One if by Night, Two if by Sea. Best meal I’ve ever had. It was just amazing. Read it on my Yelp bitches.
Evan backs out on the night like expected. The three of us go to the Continental for shots. Then we go to Village Pourhouse where Stefan works some game. He looks at this girl’s bag and sorta asks her about it, but she’s like wtf. He also asks the bartender about arm crossing and she’s like wtf. Hasan and I are looking away and suddenly he is chatting up this girl.
He stays there doing that while Hasan and I leave for the Irish pub on St. Marks. We end up leaving by 2:00 and Stefan is still getting his business down.

February 20, 2010
Candace texted me early on that she’s going to Stout tonight. Hasan comes over and we decide to go. I pregame a bunch and we meet Avi at the GN station. We go in and head immediately to Stout, which is so close to Penn. There’s singing, there’s chain smoking, and whatever business.
Hasan wants to take the 1:19, but Avi brings us along to Spin, a ping pong bar/lounge. Hasan and I play two games for monies. We meet his friend Simon who drives us around. We eventually go downtown for a bite. Crif Dogs and Pommes Frites have really long lines. We’re stuck with shitting fuckin falafel at Mamoun’s instead. Blegh.
Days later, Hasan finds a Spin ping pong ball in his car and asks when we went to play ping pong. I start laughing really hard. Apparently, he barely remembers that part of the night. He remembers leaving Stout and going to Mamoun’s, but apparently has barely any recollection of gambling on ping pong with me.

February 23, 2010
Jenn is back for a long weekend. Kenny and I meet her for dinner in town. Good times catching up the issues back home and the trip over abroad.

Slow Jan

January 24, 2009
People are pretty much gone these days for school. It’s all been pretty chill with sitting around at my place and stuff. Kenny, Miah, Hasan, and I are around in Great Neck. The Jets are playing today. Things are planned really poorly. I wanted wings today, but end up getting chicken at Wendy’s. We get some soda and beer at Walbaum’s. I’m still working these days and need to get cracking on the LSATs.
Other than that, I’ve been trying to stick to my diet and workout. The workout has been going out pretty well, but it’s been really cold recently and I haven’t really been able to run. I ruined by diet for the past few days with Chinese food, fast food, and drinking. It’s the weekend though and when people are gone, all of that will be a treat once in a while. During the week though, it’s good. Keep the workout going. Keep the protein high, calories and fat low. I’ve stocked the house with proper food so I either don’t have anything to eat or go healthy. That’s the way to do it.
After working out, I go to make some food. Grandma is staying at my aunt’s so I have to cook for myself. There’s fish in the fridge, so I want to cook that. It’s mostly bones with some meat, so that’s perfect for a fish soup. Cook that in water to make a stock, remove the bones and get the meat off for the soup.
Sweat some onions and celery. Add the stock until a boil. Add broccoli, frozen veg (peas, carrots, beans), a can of beans, pasta, and bay leaves for aroma. Badda bing, delicious.
For dinner, blueberry yogurt, ice, skim milk, half an apple, half an orange, a banana, and half a scoop of whey in the blender. Delicious smoothie.
For lunch tomorrow, I have leftover chicken. Only keep the white meat. Cut it up. Add celery. Mustard, pepper, low fat mayo, salt. You got chicken salad that’s healthy. Put it on with protein fortified whole wheat with lettuce and tomato. I guess that’ll be for breakfast. Along with probably some soup that I just made that can be microwaved. Some Special K protein. Some ice coffee without sugar.

Winter Break (WOW This has been forever)

December 5, 2009
At night, I get text Avi. We figure plans to go to Bell Blvd bar crawl. What is this shit. Why am I going to Bell like 15 times this week? His friend Perry comes over. He actually lives two blocks away from me. He graduated like 3 years ago and used to take my bus. We hang at my place a little bit to pregame. We head to a bar, but it’s pretty empty. We go to another bar and it’s a bit more bouncing. It has an Al Zaheem smoking area in the back. We try to get into a game of beer pong, but Avi has business to get to. It’s 1-2:00 and he drops us off.
Just saying, there’s something about Beirut and the mood they set. I just can’t take how amazing they are. I just want to listen to them all the time. I don’t actually, but randomly listening to them makes them so amazing.

December 8, 2009
Although I changed my iPod battery yesterday, for some reason, my Menu button doesn’t work. You with the iPod, go try to work it. Then again, I guess I can get by. I get home and try to fix it by opening it up all over again and checking everything. Whatever, I’ll be fine. I’ll put on my 5 hour Howard Stern show, listen to it all the way, and that’s it. I do that already anyway. I’ll live.

December 11, 2009
At night, Bolanos and I end up going to Bell again for a bit. This one place is sorta bouncin’, but he wants to watch the game. After a beer, we decide to go back to his place and watch the game and watch random stuff.

December 12, 2009
At night, I’m supposed to go into the city for Stout with Candace and Damien. However, it’s really fucking cold and I don’t want to trek all the way to the city. Instead, Bolanos, his brother, and I get Five Guys for dinner. It’s rough to eat because I was so healthy all day.
I’ve been trying to eat loads of meals a day. I start off with ice coffee and a scoop of protein powder. After that, I go with frozen veggies, chicken breast, and white rice. Then more protein with skim milk. Optimally for dinner I should’ve had more veg and chicken. At least I stick to their smaller burger and ask for them to load it up with the veggie toppings.

December 15, 2009
It’s the last day of classes. I got back a paper yesterday from my Con Class. I ended up getting a B+/A-. The class is wicked hard after realizing the things he expected us to do. We had a hypothetical about Indian reservations and loads of constitutional issues. Our task is to find as many issues as we can. He purposely wrote it with scrutiny over a single last word to get the most out of us. I’m well versed and competent at this stuff and a B+ is the best I can do. Christ.
The rest of the semester shouldn’t be too bad. There’s a Spanish final on Friday that there’s no too much I can study for. There’s Con final on Monday. There’s nothing to study for it because it’s a hypothetical and open book. We’re also allowed to take it out of the room and do it on a computer. That’s a real liberal final.
I have to revise a paper too, but there’s no too much I can do about that. I already got an A- and I should be able to get an A without a lot of revision. I also have a 8-10 paper on Ricci v. DeStefano. I’ve already read 50 pages of district and circuit court decisions for it. I have to write about the legal standing in the case. I’ve also started listening to the oral arguments of the case and writing notes while listening. I’ve obviously only done this so rigorously because I have a commute and there’s nothing else to do on my commute.

December 16, 2009
It’s so weird. The past two nights, I’ve had law dreams. Like one’s where I’m either a judge or lawyer dealing with some case. It’s definitely because my commute involves me reading the Ricci case or listening to the oral arguments on my iPod.

December 23, 2009
Shit man, it’s been forever since I’ve blogged. Last big thing was Bolanos’ birthday. We went into the city for Bar Stuzzichini. I thought it was a bit overpriced for those portions. We then went to Cheap Shots, which has really been fixed up. Classy moments like ordering a pitcher for beer for $6.50 and when the bartender asks how many glasses, you respond, “One.”
I also go to Two Bros. for their $1 slice. Yep, $1, but it’s pretty shitty pizza. I’m also on my awesome diet and rip off all the cheese and sauce then sprinkle it with oregano and the works. People give me weird looks. Avi comes in. We go to McSorely’s while CNF and Kenny leave. We go through loads of beers and end up with like a $49 bill. We leave the guy a $2 tip and apparently he was not happy…
We shmooze around a bit until Avi drives us home. That’s super convenient that he drove into the city.
We’ve just been hanging out otherwise. I don’t think anything much. There’s an awesome lunch today. Evan picks Alon and I pick and we go to Panchos. Erdem is there. I printed out a coupon. It’s better than Baja Fresh that Evan suggested. That place is pretty sucky and really overpriced Taco Bell. Panchos has a $8 lunch special with unlimited chips and salsa and soda. They also have $2 frozen margharitas. I go through two so that our bill hits over $50 and we get $10 off of the bill instead of $5. Hasan bets how much the new bill will be with my drink. Cmon, $2 and tax. How can I mess up? I obviously win the bet. I’m also on a streak from last night going $20+ in our $5 cash poker game at Alon’s.
Classy Erdem orders an $8 shot of Patron Silver with lunch at 1:00PM. I get a buffalo chicken quesadilla. I only finish half and need to bring half back. I had loads of chips. Also, I had a salad from BK at 3:00AM last night. That was a bad idea and it does not sit well in my stomach at all.
The rest of the day is meh. I take a nap. Family is over. Nothing happens at night. Glad to be done at least.

I plan on sending out gifts today, but it turns out that even on Christmas Eve, post offices are open, but until 12… Thanks…
My aunt’s side of the fam is over from VA and I decide to cook tonight. I go to Stop and Shop to get ingredients. I get back and start cooking by 4:30.
I do sweet potato. Cut, put in a roast pan and drizzle with olive oil, honey, and lemon juice and then salt. Bake.
Mac n’ cheese. Make a roux and melt two types of sharp cheddar. Cook macaroni and put in the sauce. Then cover in a baking pan with shredded cheese and a mixture of crushed croutons and butter. This makes the crust. I like using croutons because they are pre-seasoned and really add a kick to the dish.
I make a spicy sausage and kale soup with potato. Also chicken stock. A really easy soup. A dollop of sour cream when it’s done.
Oatmeal, peanut butter, and apple cookie.
A toasted ciabatta too, but I wish I made that. It was bought.
Aunt makes the ham, which is pretty simply. Pre-cooked, you have to bake it and baste with honey, orange juice, brown sugar, etc.
After dinner, the plans shmooze around forever. Finally by almost 12:00, we play poker over at Josh’s place with Bolanos, Alon, Scott, and Matt.

Fuck yea bitches.

People that do not have taste and smell end up eating more. I’ve always been saying this. That’s why I always “over” season by foods. You end up eating less and enjoy your food more. I don’t know if it’s the mental thing that triggers for me, but I do like eating. Therefore, I find myself eating more when something is bland.
Lesson: Season your food well. You’ll eat less and it will taste better.

December 26, 2009
At night, we figure to go to Alon’s because it’s the only open house around. CNF and Atron go to a party in the city. I have an urge to go, but I don’t feel really well and I missed the 950 train, so I don’t feel like going in too late.
At Alon’s, we play poker. I’m in for $15. I’m lowstacked and don’t get anything going. For our next game, I’m in again for $15, but I get an all-in with AA and mitigate my losses to $5. That’s $20 for the night. A cheap night considering I’ve spent $50 on some nights out at the bars. Also, I got more entertainment this way. We should play poker more. Come to think of it, it’s also like a “cycle” of money. The money isn’t going down a drain for booze or something. It’s money exchanged between the group. I don’t think there are any solid winners in our game, so it’s almost like passing money around without much net loss.
We end up staying there pretty late until 4:00.

December 28, 2009
CNF pulls through and gets plans for us to go to Williamsburg. It’s a bunch of us that go and it’s this awesome cheap bar. $4 for a whiskey and beer. $5 for Jager and Bud called the Fratboy. That’s what I’m about.
We then go to another bar, but the other part of the group already left. We go to the pizza bar. You get a small personal pizza with your order of beer. It’s hilarious noticing that the demand for pizza is higher than beer. No one wants to drink more beer, but people definitely want to get more pizza.

December 30, 2009
New Years coming up bitches. I get a bottle of SoCo 100 proof for Bolanos and I to share. We’re going to the city tonight. He comes over to pregame. CNF also comes over and we take a 8:50 train. The plans get messed up and we shmooze around a lot. Bolanod does the classy move of flashing that we brought a water bottle of liquor with us. We get kicked out of the bar.
We then spent loads of time waiting around for his friend. Bolanos’ friend Shaq and his girlfriend and friends leave. The place we go to seems like a bar. However, people live there and there’s a fridge and 40-50 year old serving food. It’s a really weird situation and I would associate it with a frat house. There’s an awesome live funk band jamming out like James Brown awesomeness. There’s even free liquor.
CNF leaves for the 12:19 train. I want him to stay because we just got there. I’d take the 1:19 with him. We literally just got there and he just wants to leave. After hanging for a bit, I want to take the 1:19 with Bolanos. However, he wants to stay. We end up hanging at Ace Bar for a little bit. We take the train back and Spamps gives me a ride back coming from Scotts.

January 2, 2009
I go with Kerri, Candace, Kim, and their friend Toni Ann to Roosevelt. I go to Forever 21, which has a men’s section apparently. I get a colorful plaid shirt and a long cardigan. At H&M, I get two purple button ups, a gray one, a gray V-neck, gray pants, and sweater. They accidently don’t charge me for a $30 shirt. Awesomeee.
At night, I go to Scott’s. I have the rest of my SoCo and some of Jonah’s yummy beer. Good times.

January 3, 2009
Skins is an awesome show. Fucking watch it! SOOO good. Shit restaurant that Erdem chose. I need to write more on Yelp, but the review of Bairrada is up at least.
Single Darwin has to go on a run. Fuck this shit.

January 7, 2009
Incompetence as its high. People can barely get night plans going without me. I can’t take my time working out while people figure shit out. They know I’m down for hanging for the night, but I still have the be the nexus of information and end up having to make the moves and calls.
Possible plans of a nice lounge for cocktails or PDT. Out the window. I’m sure it would’ve happened, but I’m at work. How I supposed to organize this shit?
Geek plans with Erdem, Miah, and Spamps. No coordination. Again, I’m at work all day, why am I to make all these calls?
Yes I’m bitching, but when I’m fed up, I’ll do the job myself.
Then, we actually get plans to go into the city. CNF takes the 920. I’m supposed to take that, but I wait for Bolanos. We miss the next train, which gets me fired up, but it’s fine because Bolanos drives in. Man, that cuts the trip to under 30 minutes. Holler yeah.
We go to a bar first and Bolanos and I get a shot and a beer. I speak to Atron to give him directions. Stefan sees me outside speaking to him and jokes about my pants. They’re not tight, they’re fitting. I looked fuckin’ awesome with the new threads, hells yeah. We go to the next place dba, a bar. Loads of people are out tonight. Stefan, Bolanos, Brandon, Evan, CNF, Josh, Dough, Evan.
Aaron shows up, but the lady won’t let him in. He’s 21 in 20 minutes. He throws a hissy fit, but he’s gotta calm down. We try to go to Death and Co. for a good cocktail, but they also won’t let Atron in. We go to a random bar and we have to wait 5 minutes until Atron can be served.
People come and most people depart. CNF starts talking to some girl and we go to Sophie’s. Brandon says that some girls are coming, but they don’t. Apparently one of them is Governor Patterson’s daughter? Wtf?
CNF gets a number, but she drops the boyfriend bomb a few times. Sucks. Brandon drives back in Bolanos’ car because we drank. We stop by at Wendy’s. Nom nom.

January 9, 2009
It’s Jon’s last day and we run to the mall to return some stuff. We go to his house to figure out plans. People are bitching out and don’t want to hang out for our boy’s last night. We go to my place so I can change and take the 850 into the city. We meet with Jonah to get soba noodles. Review with be up on Yelp.
Scott meets up with us and we go to the place with 5 shots for $10. That’s pretty hot. Josh joins us and we go over to Hop Devil. Candace and Kim text me that I should come out, but people don’t want to go there. We then go to Death and Co, which is awesome. Then off to Cheap Shot where we order a pitcher of Patriot Ale, but we also get a free one because people are leaving the bar. Kim and Candace show to say Hi. We all take the 3:19 to get back. The 5 shots I took start hitting me a bit and I get McDonald’s at Penn. Nom nom. I see the dudes at the pizza place and I decide to smother my McChicken and double cheeseburger with pizza toppings, red pepper flakes, parmesean cheese, and oregano. Don’t ask why, it tasted delicious.

January 12, 2009
I really do not have time for this. I work and have to take naps so I keep my eyes open during the day. There are some nerd plans and I hope that people would do something about it. Hasan said that he might be free tonight. I tell Miah this. Nothing is done about it. Basically, in the end, not only do I have no time, but I have to go out of my way to delegate things for people to do in order for us to hang out. If people want the solution to be no one hanging out, then that’s fine.
Whatever, ranting off. Just not in the mood after a long day of work.

January 15, 2009
Hasan drives into city with Bolanos, Miah, Spamps, and I. Atron takes the train in. It’s Food Tour! For the restaurants, we can read the reviews on Yelp. Yelp.com/dweez
We first go to Caracas, delicious, the best. We then go to Currywurst. Then we go to Zaragoza for tacos. For some reason, Miah and Hasan don’t want to come. After tacos, we go over to Superdive because Miah and Erdem are supposed to be there. It’s such a funny sight. The place is usually packed with college kids, but it’s before 8. It’s literally just them two sitting at the bar. There’s some random guy at the bar too. It’s is SO freaking awkward that I am not even willing to walk into the bar. Why the fuck are they there?
We go to Hi Fi for the happy hour. Two yummy pints for $6, that’s a deal. We then get some ice cream. We then move onto Cheap Shots to get some beer. Then to cheap shots for some shots. Atron takes the train back. Then to Baoguette. Then to artichoke and zeppoles. We then drive back. Nom nom. Loads of foods.

January 16, 2009
Not many people from GN go to Atron’s b-day shindig in the city. I take the 9:50 and go to Gingerman. Scott, Josh, and Evan from GN are around. Aaron rented the back room for his party. There are 30+ people in our section. The rest of the bar is pretty crowded as well. I have a cider and a beer. The place has a big selection. I’m also dressed bitches. Express had an awesome sale. The $60 wool sweaters are on sale for $20 and I get 3. I go with Atron. I also get a dark red dress shirt that goes for $60 for $20. That’s how we do. Enjoying the wardrobe additions.
At one point, Atron and I are outside getting a cigarette. A random guy walks over with his friend and wants one. Aaron says he doesn’t have one. He makes a comment about his friend’s weird headband. He really did not antagonize the guy at all. For no reason, he just wants to get into a confrontation. Out of nowhere, he punches Atron in the face. I follow the two and call 911. They can’t do anything because the two kids are moving and the cops have nowhere to go. What a fuckin’ waste.
I run back to Atron and he’s bleeding from his nose. His lip is bruised up. I meet some of Atron’s people from Bing. It’s nice chatting around. Chillin’ with sisters Elyse and Lauren, cool ladies. Stefan gets a girl from JDate to come. I remember chatting up a girl because I thought she was a friend of the gal. Turns out it wasn’t a friend, but actually the gal that Stefan asked to come from JDate. Lols. No biggie though because she split after 10 minutes.
We take the 3:15 back. I’m getting some water outside of Penn and I see Atron wrestling with someone. I’m confused. I thought that Atron was getting into it with someone because he was pissed about being punched and his lip. It turns out that he ran into the same two guys, but the fight is broken up.

January 17, 2009
I wake up way late and Hasan and I go to H Mart for food shopping. Pick up Miah and we go to Atron’s. We cook dinner while the Jets beat the Chargers. Being a competitive dick, I want cook up against Hasan. I make creamed spinach. I make a spice rubbed thinly sliced pork loin. Hasan does his Italian style. For dessert, he does a baked apple. I do it caramelized in a pan.
It all turns out pretty well. At night, Josh and Scott come over to play poker. Hasan runs it well and turns out to be the winner of the night. With many buy ins, one of the biggest winners we’ve had with $52+.

January 18, 2009
Atron has the smart idea of going to Rick’s Cabaret in the city for a $18 lunch and cocktail. It’s a strip club. Hasan decides to drive in with Atron and I. However, there is no parking in the midtown area. We have to park 15 minutes away walking and things are messed up because the parking is only hourly. Someone has to run all the way out there to put in quarters. Murray is there. Atron’s friend and a friend I had when I was at Bing. We instead drive downtown. We go to Prosperity Dumpling. Nom nom. We look for Doughnut Planet, but only get some banh mi at Saigon.
There’s traffic and stuff and I get back by 6:00. I spend the way writing Yelp reviews. People come over for poker. I’m only down $2.50. Bolanos is the only person up for the night. Scott, Kenny, Alon Elian, Avi, and I play.
More on the rant later I guess, but single Darwin is single. He’s gotta put himself out there more these days. Even all the time that I’m working, I should get this shit down. Life’s gotta go. I’m graduated bitches. We learned from experiences in the past and will continue life with new lessons, perspectives, and less mistakes. A new year!

Beginning of December

November 30, 2009
I missed a bus at Flushing and check out a few of the Asian stores. They have mad girly things since I’m looking for gifts for Corinne and Nikki. I already have Katie’s. Hm, I still have to get Christmas cars and stuff for mom and brosky.
I’m watching Amazing Race and it’s aweessomee. This is the second episode where they’re in Prague and I loves it. I’m reminded of all these awesome places and how much fun I had in Prague. I also saw an ad on the subway and it had streets, signs, and European car license plates that really made me think that it was Prague in the ad. I also went to one of the bars that they have an challenge in.

December 1, 2009
Class update: Spanish is still annoying. I had a test today on the novel and I thought I’d do super bad, but the test wasn’t hard at all.
I have my Democracy class, which is filled with annoying pointless debate as usual. People going back and forth talking about dumb points. Then again, they’re actually really smart kids and I’m just by it all. I can see these differences in my classes. I get my first draft back and I got an A-. That’s awesome since I thought I was around the average of the class, especially I fucked up with a C on the midterm.
The Constitution Minorities class is boring as shit and there’s no final so no one cares. We still have a paper and a presentation though.
After my Spanish test, I go with a few of the students to Johnny Rockets to get some lunch. There’s mad annoying stuff with trying to figure out graduation. I finally figure it out and I have to run some errands for it, but it’s still next Wednesday.
After all my classes, I have an ACLU Meeting. It’s the final one and we’re graduating. We have S’Mac. If you don’t know what it is, it’s real good. It’s Mac n’ Cheese to the nuts with breadcrumbs baked on top. It’s not cheap, $10 for a big portion. However, when it’s on NYU’s dime because we’re a club. I eat a whole thing myself because I’ve been starving since I had an egg sandwich for lunch at 12:00. I usually would portion it and only eat half, which should be a real “portion,” but I’m doing comfort food for now. We also order extra so I get a whole thing to bring home. Nice nice!

December 2, 2009
I get my midterm back from Constitution and I’m really fuckin’ pissed. I get a B in a class that I have down like no one’s business. It turns out that my strategy of getting down the facts did not get me there. Instead, I was supposed to make an argument. All three of my responses on the midterm were missing a clear thesis. The questions were pretty straight forward like:
5. Discuss the contours of the Black-Frankfurter debate on incorporation in terms of differing perspectives on jurisprudence expounded by the two interlocutors.
Without words like “explain,” “why,” or “agree,” then I just took it to throw out the cases and facts. I’m telling you my midterm was at least an A/A-. Instead, me not getting the point of the midterm earned me a B. Screw this. I sent the TA a scathing email about how poorly the objective of the midterm was explained.

I wake up late-ish and Hasan calls me. He wants to get lunch. He’s been around these days sort of, but we haven’t seen him recently. We go to Bayside to get Thai. Review written on Yelp.
It’s a lazy day for me even though I should be writing my paper and studying for my final on Tuesday. For dinner, I cook for mom and I. I roast an entire chicken. It turns out fantastic. Marinate that. Minced garlic, chopped thyme, and butter stuffed in between the breast and skin. My house reeks of thyme. Yummy. Now that I’m recently 21, mom pulls a cool move of offering a glass of wine with dinner. That’s an interesting dynamic.
Avi gives me a call, but he’s in the city and it’s annoying to get all the way in there. I speak to Erdem, Kenny, and Miah about tonight. Hasan has the swell idea of playing Magic. I just want to get the night going and I tell people to come over. We hang out for a bit and we have a few drinks.
I get figgity and want to get moving out. We head over to Tavern because it’s karaoke night. It’s a weird situation where the person running the karaoke machine is singing herself and no one else is singing. The other people are all way older and just sititng at the bar. I sing a few songs and Miah and Kenny get a kick out of it. Hasan joins in on two songs with me. We end up going and dropping off Kenny and Miah. Hasan and I go to Bayside and check out their bars. They’re actually a few crowded places and there’s at least a scene. Then again, it’s more of the Afflication wearing d-bag thing going. We hang out there for a little bit before heading home. It’s probably 2-3:00ish by now. I get home and pass out after not getting much sleep over the week.
