Damn, niggas is stupid.

PLEASE watch Aliens in America. It’s getting shitty ratings on the CW, but it’s one of the best sitcoms on TV. It’s Malcolm in the Middle meets Muslims. Yeah, it’s fun.

I actually got this song from Smallville. It’s so good. Upbeat, scratching, loungey jazz feel, horn blasts, fun music.

Never really liked much electronic music, but Dummy’s one of the best albums out of the 90s. They’re out with a highly rated album this year, but it’s a bit too far for me.

April 26, 2008

By the time it reaches night, I try to figure if Hasan is coming in. It turns out that he gives the excuse that he’s been giving for the last three weeks. I ask him if he’s free, he said he will be. By the time it’s night, he gives an excuse and says he has to be doing something tomorrow, but will be free tomorrow night. I ask him if he’s free the next day… You get the idea. It’s a fun game.

Josh gets off work at 12:00, so he decides to come by at 1:00ish. We speak to Jonah online and he turns out to be coming in too. At the store, I get a 40 and we split a six pack of Guinness Extra Stout. By 3-4:00, Josh and Jonah decide it’s getting late and leave. While we were hanging out, we spend some time hanging out with Spamps on Skype.

April 28, 2008

For the past few days, I’ve been wasting my time on YouTube because I’ve run out of TV to watch.

I’ve never been a fan of the horror genre, but if this was a film, it’s be one of the favorites.

You guys might think I’m a multi-tasker, but nothing like this guy. Why would anyone want to run a treadmill, paint, and make mix drinks at the same time?

Hugest Hitchcock fan here. I can’t imagine how Hitchcock came back in the form of Scorsese to shoot this short.

April 25, 2008

It’s a non-class Friday, like most as NYU. I spend my day keeping up with my television; My Name is Earl, The Office, and 30 Rock. Watch 30 Rock!

I also watch North by Northwest because I haven’t seen it in a while and Hitchcock is my favorite director. I realize that the film is slower and more roundabout than I remember, but not as much as the critical favorite, Vertigo (and I don’t like it for that those reasons).

Anyway, this seems like a good time to post my favorite songs of the year, with emphasis on pop.

I try to figure out who’s around. CNF has the GREs and essays coming up, so he’s only done next week. Jonah is on a sleep schedule that has him sleeping at 10:00. Hasan has seemed free for the past few days, but he isn’t around tonight and said he’ll do stuff tomorrow, but we’ll have to see if that happens.

At 11:00ish, I decide to pour myself a few drinks. Then, it’s a good time to grab some food. I look for a halal cart, which I love. I find one that’s 3 blocks away. $4 for a pound of salad, rice, chicken with hot and yogurt sauce. I sit down at a stoop and call up some people. Spamps is at a party drinkin’ some beers with friends that made their own microbrew, cool!

It turns out that Miah went home. I spoke to him yesterday and he didn’t say anything about it. He could’ve left the g/f a bit earlier and hung out for the night, which he said he would’ve done, but he didn’t speak to me about being in GN so I wouldn’t have suggested the idea. Whipped.

I call Bolanos. Him and Aaron are at a party and it’s hard to hear them. I keep up with Scott. By then, it’s 1:00ish and I get back to the room to see an IM from Josh. I somehow missed a call from Josh. He left work and I missed a call at 11:00 from him because of my stupid phone. I would’ve left at 1:00 to hang out, but it was 1:40 by then time I was speaking to him, too late.

So the end is coming near and it’s time to crack down on the work. Hopefully I’ll be doing something tomorrow at least.

April 18, 2008

So Aaron and Bolanos are back from Binghamton for their break. Hasan and them decide to come into the city. This is before 11:00. We go to the liquor store to grab some booze and I sign them up to the dorm. We hang and drink for a while until I sign CNF into the building. After a while, Josh calls because he’s downstairs, but I can’t sign anymore people in.

We all go down to figure stuff out. Hasan suggests going to Astoria, which doesn’t make much sense because hanging out at my place is the same. We’re just looking for somewhere to stay.

Josh isn’t planning to stay for the night because he has other plans, so he and CNF decide to do that and get food. Hasan wants to get food in the East Village, but doesn’t know how to get there. I try to lead him the right way, but he somehow gets onto a highway and it takes a lot longer than it should because it’s only a 25 minute walk there.

I try to voice my opinion against going because it’s just Halal cart food, which you can get blocks away from me instead of driving all the way there. So after a roundabout drive, we then have to find parking. After parking at a No Standing and Hasan could’ve stayed in the car, he goes ahead to risk getting a ticket.

Aaron went to find somewhere for a bathroom. He gets his food, which for some reason takes a ridiculously long time. It ends up costing them double of what it would at a cart and it’s all the same. Aaron’s platter is $12, he could’ve gotten it for $5.

So after blowing all that time on an “Erdem trip,” we come back to my dorm for some more hanging out and drinking. They end up leaving at around 2:30ish or something.

Mid April

April 11, 2008

So I end up not doing anything Thursday even though Hasan calls me in the middle of class. It’s pretty awkward because I can’t get it to stop until after two rings. It’s my dumb World Cultures class, so I do another awkward move of leaving. I call back Hasan and he seems interested in doing stuff. He said he’d be online.

He ends up not being online and he doesn’t pick up. Not surprising.

Surprising, CNF turns out to be free for the night and comes in. He gets me a 1.5L of Vodka for $18. I work on that at my dorm, while he has beer. I pregame a lot and we walk to Fat Cat to chill out. He ends up deciding to leave early at 1-2:00ish and I go back.

April 12, 2008

No one seems around for the night. Spamps actually came into the city with Caroline to see Hot Chip with Jonah. Spamps doesn’t see me while he’s in NYC…

CNF decides to finally come into the city at 11:30ish to grab a bite. I join him. CNF return to my place to hang out and Jonah joins later. We hang out for a bit until both of them leave. By the end of the night, I notice that I’ve finished half of the bottle that was purchased last night.

April 16, 2008

I’m registering for classes today. I’m taking two classes that I’m not sure about, but hopefully they’ll be a hell lot better than my classes this semester. I looked through their syllabi and they don’t seem too bad. The two classes that I really want to get into are Civil Liberties and American Constitution. They’re basically the only two classes in the entire Politics department that I’m truly interested in taking. It’s going to be mighty hard finding other classes.

I’m currently waitlisted for those two classes, how fun, but I’m second position for one of them. I’m twenty first for another. So I’ll be getting into one of them. Not sure about the second one. However, I’ve signed up for another class, which I probably really won’t like, but what can I do. Another option is a class that might be better, but it has lecture AND recitation, so that’s more class a week.

April 9, 2008

So I thought this would be a good time to give an update about the scholastic experience here. One of my classes is a stupid requirement on World Cultures: China, Asia, and whatever bullshit. It’s reading old stuff like Confucius and stories. At least I got an A- for the midterm, so I should be able to keep that up.

I have two classes that turned out to be different from what I expected. One is International Politics. It actually has little to do with actual international issues and is almost all game theory, charts, lines, numbers, etc. I’m not doing too well with an 80 on the midterm. Then again, that’s getting 3 True/False wrong and getting all the more important problem sets completely right. The test was poorly weighted and only out of 30 pts. It’s a bit frustrating, but what can you do. Those readings were dumb anyway.

My Power and Politics class could be interesting because it deals with American political infrastructure and such, but it also turns out to be a lot about polls, trends, theory, and more charts, graphs, lines. I got an A on the midterm, so I should be fine on that.

My Political Theory class is what I expected, but the theorists are boring other than the Federalists, Locke, and JS Mill. I got an A- on the midterm and I should be doing fine on the essays that we’ve handed in.

As for the classes I’m registering soon, there are two that look real interesting, Supreme Court and Civil Liberties. I looked through the syllabi and they deal with mostly Supreme Court cases, which I like. The other two classes I have to choose are up in the air. So far the ones that I’ve looked at seem like I won’t like them like the classes I’m taking this semester.

We watched a great documentary, No End In Sight, in International Politics today that picked through the process of the Iraq War. My professor said that it would be nonpartisan, but it naturally turns out against the war because of the incompetence of all the people involved. It also doesn’t just blame everything on Bush, because he’s not truly involved with such things. Granted, it’s his administration, but the people making the poor decisions while ignoring good advice are the ones in direct fault. I would recommend watching it to inform oneself on one of the most important events of our lifetime. Lifetime count as like High School and up. I didn’t follow much even during High School…

Later in the day, I get a call from Hasan that he’ll be around tomorrow. However, he said that he’ll be free later in the night after doing some stuff. When 11:00 rolls around, I call him. No pick up, obvs. Anyway, hopefully I’ll be hanging out tomorrow.

Anyway, with shows coming back, here’s the DL.

New show that you must watch, Aliens in America. It’s Freaks and Geeks with Malcolm in the Middle. A bit of family dysfunctional filled with racial stereotypes, tensions, and social awkwardness.

Battlestar is back up. I’m telling you, currently the best show on television and one of the best of the decade. Watch it!

Top Chef. Though you might not like it if you’re not interested in food. Same goes for Hell’s Kitchen, though it might be more exciting for most because it has a loud cursing British man.

Again, How I Met Your Mother. Probably the best comedy on television until 30 Rock comes back.

Now onto the pop culture. THE SOUP! Watch the fucking show. If you don’t enjoy watching pop TV, at least watch this because it just aggregates all the funniest clips and rips the shit out of them.

Rock of Love. It’s Flavor, but with Brett Michaels from Poison. It’s meh.

The Hills. The snobby dumb drama just makes it one of the funniest shows on TV. It hits awkwardness all the time and it’s just leaves you dumbfounded how these people operate.

American Idol. Probably all of you will find it stupid, but they sometimes do good songs and they all actually have good voices. I’m actually rooting for one guy he’s a classic rock dude and has done Queen and old school stuff. Unfortunately, he’s not a front runner and the little Archuleta faggot is going to win.

First April Weekend

April 3, 2008

So I decided to start the blog again due to popular demand. While I’m writing this, I’m listening to the new Madonna single with Timbaland and JT.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmwiNG9v350

It’s also Thursday night, so I’m making my dinner. Salad with Balsamic vinaigrette. Toasted whole wheat rye with eggplant caponata, turkey, muenster, and roasted peppers with a side of steak fries and chili ketchup.

Tonight El-P (who’s amazing) is performing at NYU, which I guess I should’ve gotten tickets for, though CNF and Jonah are going. I guess I could’ve gotten tickets myself, though I would’ve expected Jonah to ask if I wanted to go. I ended up deciding to not to get tickets or anything because I thought something else might happen for the night and I wouldn’t want to tie myself up.

Turns out that no one’s really around, so I’m pretty darn bored 11:10. I’m thinking about using the ID that I recently chalked at the liquor store. However, I’m not sure that it’ll end up working and I could always wait to use it when peeps are around. At least it’s fun being rejected with other people around. Not too fun to make that shameful walk home by oneself.

I speak to Jonah and CNF later coming back from the concert, but they decide to head back to their respective homes instead of ballin’ with the D Man. I end up playing some CS and watching some TV for the rest of the night.

April 4, 2008

I wake up late, though I’ve been noticing that when I get a lot of sleep, I end up being real tired, whereas getting 7ish hours during class days is fine for me. After 9-10 hours of sleep, I end up taking a nap too.

At night, I try to see if anything’s happening tonight. Hasan said he’ll be around tomorrow. Evan said he’ll be free at 11:00ish, though I’ll see if that happens. I also get an IM from Jenn, who I haven’t spoken to in a while. She didn’t have a new number during the break, so she wasn’t able to get to me. I guess we’ll see her during the summer.

Turns out that Evan is unreachable when the clock rolls around. I call CNF and Jonah and it turns out that they double/triple/etc. dinnered that night. When they come down, CNF and Jonah hang out in my room. At almost 2:00, we leave to go to Fat Cat because CNF has never been there.

We get some beer on the way to sneak in, I get a 22 of Coors Light. We sit around listening to live jazz and CNF and I go back out for me to get a 20 of Steely Reserve. I end up drinking it on the way back walking with Jonah. This is because CNF left, but it’s surprising that he did so at 4:00ish.

April 5, 2008

I wake up super late at 3:30. I later ask to see if Hasan’s coming in like he said yesterday, but he doesn’t really give an answer and disappears off the earth. As in not being on AIM and not picking up calls. Turns out that CNF and Evan are staying in for the night. I end up making late plans with Jonah. At 1:00ish, we go to a CafĂ© near NYU for cappuccino, but not before I get some shwarma at Mamoun’s. We then walk to Union Square’s 24/7 Starbucks because there’s not much to do and I haven’t had my Caramel Macchiato in a while.

We then end up getting back to our dorms by 3:00ish, maybe 4:00.
