Summer is a Coming

April 24, 2010
I wake up and go to get lunch with Kenny and Miah. For some reason, Erdem drives by to shout Hi, even though it’s out of his way to go to the city. We go to Ceriello and Douglaston Deli while Kenny gets stuff at Aegea. We stop at the park nearby to eat.
I work out during the night. Did a pretty good job, but didn’t get any cardio down. I’m still sore from that Youtube workout that I did. It’s rainy outside and I can’t run.
Erdem stays at Kenny’s playing Diablo 2. I end up staying in for the night.

April 25, 2010
I wake up and have to run an errand for mom in the city. Stefan is on the island and I pick him up. We drive into the city to grab a bite. Might as well if I’m in the city. On the way, he tells me that Elyse (Atron’s sister) got engaged yesterday. We’re in Murray Hill dropping off an envelope. On the same block as where I’m supposed to go, we run into Elyse and her fiancé at the corner. Wow! What a small wold. They were looking for apartments. Stefan just mentioned her. It’s so random that I met up with Stefan and that he was on the Island. Then that he came with me. Then that he told me about her recently getting engaged. Then I had to run the errand. And they were on that corner at that time. All those things had to work out. The stars aligned.
After that, we drive down to Greenwich Village. I wanted “banh mi” and Num Pang is Cambodian sandwiches. Jonah meets up with us. Stefan and I split two different sandwiches. Afterwards, we drive down to Spot on St. Marks. Great dessert place. Afterwards, he goes back home and I drive back home.

April 31, 2010
Work has been a bit different. There are two new people and I have to sort of manage them and what they do. It’s sorta cool to be in a position where I run things.
At night, I pick up Miah to go to my house. I change and we pregame. Avi comes over and we head out to Candace’s PJ party. Man’s got a legit robe on. There’s loads of people and we get that drink one. I force our boy Miah to get some real drinking done and he gets drunk as well.
Someone breaks the glass table at one point. We leave at some point and go out to Cherry Valley. We run into Alon Elian for some reason because Avi planned it out that way somehow. That’s about it. Ya.

May 1, 2010
I’m supposed to go out to the club with Damien and Candace, but I’m too tired for that shit. I stay in instead. I’m hungry and decide to order some Domino’s. It’s been a while since I’ve stayed in, chilled out, and ordered some food. I get some thin crust for less bread. The anchovies is actually not bad on it. I chill out listening to some music, watching some TV, enjoying a gin and tonic, having some pizza, etc.

May 2, 2010
I’m running late today and Miah and I go into the city for our Taste of the East Village thing. We miss S’Mac however because it ends at 2:00, which makes no sense. However, we still make the other places on there. La Lucha Taqueria, Luke’s Lobster, Baoguette, Chickalicious dessert bar, and Xoom smoothie. After that, we drive back at 5:00ish. The traffic isn’t that bad.

May 8, 2010
I wake up hungry as usual and head over to H Mart for some sushi. Just been in the mood recently. I actually get the sushi for later and I'm full off of the samples that they have there for their East meets West festival thing. I also pick up some random stuff and kimchi. I wasn't a kimchi fan before, but shit's so healthy and bland these days. Kimchi is almost like a treat. It packs a fuck load of flavor and it's straight cabbage. Free calories, biotch.
Then, Starbucks is doing half price Fraps from 3-5:00. Done deal. Mocha light frap. No whip. It's only 200 calories for a huge Venti.
Graduation is coming up so I go to get some shoes. Payless motherfuckers, $36, done deal. After that, I see a liquor store. I grab some Fleischman's. The much anticipated Stout night is tonight. I speed home after shoes and it's 8:00. I have some sushi. I then work out a bit while chatting on Stickam with German Ela, who will be moving to the east coast to become a babysitter for a while. She puts up with me doing a creepy douche, in a sarcastic way at least.
I go to pick up Jeremiah and we stand around at my place pregaming and shit. I catch up with Corinne while getting ready, who should be going out too tonight. We walk over the 9:50 train, though not before having some awesome Tanqueray with diet Tonic, fresh lime, and fresh mint. Also with the mojito muddling going, like that Bacardi commercial.
Chilling at Stout is the usual awesomeness. Chris Q is back from his hiatus. Candace has her costumes and stuff with him. I haven't seen Theresa in forevs. Kimbo Slice is hanging with us too. Drinks are had and shit's bonkers.
Avi ends up coming through. We leave to go downtown to get some food. We're at Mamoun's. Avi paid for a round, so I get him food. I pay for it. I put my wallet in my back pocket, which I never do, but I'm carrying a sandwich and drink. I remember throwing something out in the garbage. I walk outside, hand him the food, check myself, and realize I don't have my wallet. That seriously was 20 seconds and 20 feet. Where the fuck is my wallet!? We scour. I check the garbage with my hand all the way deep inside and rummaging through it. Either I threw it in the garbage and couldn't find it. Or some douchebag picked it up in that little window of space/time. Granted, being drunk probably didn't help, but I've been drunk a billion times in the past and never have had this happen before. What a fuckin' bummer to the night. Everything was so fun and amazing and this so put a damper on it.
I get home, I call Citibank to cancel my cards. I even decide to eat because I'm starving and this is really not fun to deal with. Great for me though, nothing unhealthy in the house. I'm pissed, I'm a bit drunk, I'm not having fun, and the only thing to comfort me is frozen vegetables, chicken breast, and brown rice. Yay...

May 9, 2010
It's not all that bad in the end. The ATM/credit cards will come in a couple days. Express mail rules.
I call the police office and find out that my old ID works. It's not expired and only has "Under 21" on it until DMV sends me one in two fucking weeks. DMV fail.
NYU ID, meh, don't need it. I just bought a Metro card that night $20, but fuck it. I had like $60 on me, but I'll just count it as an expensive night. I try not to spend when I'm out like I have in the past, so go me. You live, you learn. I'm okay... Then again, I'm stuck with a wallet with velcro now.

May 11, 2010
I come home to my credit cards and ATM cards. Awesome. My grandmother comes home because she’s going to my graduation tomorrow and she finds a wallet that my brother isn’t using. It’s actually nicer than my old wallet. Awesome. Looking forward to graduation tomorrow (not really), but the fact that I will be up at Bing. Partying it up for a few days. Awesome!!
However, it’s been end of February since my last haircut. I didn’t get it cut too much, it was pretty much the perfect amount, so 2+ months later, I’m sort of due. It’s not bad, but it’s a bit long and annoying with my cap for graduation. Alright, back to the Lemon Tree. They were fine last time and it’s walking distance from my house. Fuck this, they’re closed despite saying “Open Late Weekdays” and it’s only 6:30.
Then, I see a review on Google of this Korean place on the border of Great Neck/Little Neck. It’s just a Korean guy. He immediately asks if I’m Chinese, I told you that the Asians can tell. I tell him just a little bit and I want it long. He starts in the back and I can’t see that. He starts going quite a bit. I can’t tell what’s going on though. I can’t really “feel” my hair. I also confirmed that I wanted it long.
Then, he starts with the front. I’m like “okay” these bangs are a little short, but they’re not baaad. Then he keeps trimming and trimming. I even tell him “Not too short okay?” in a nice way. I ever tell you that I hate getting haircuts? You never get what you want, but not only that, I just don’t like the process of someone being so close and just cutting your hair for such a long time. I guess the dentist is worse, but I still fucking hate the idea of the haircut. Anyway, off of my rant.
Now I’m just sitting there livid. There’s nothing I can really do. What I really should have done was just stopped him right there and not let him do more damage. Like jumped out, not paid, walked away. But hey, I just sat there with an evil on him instead. I ever tell you that I’m awkward and don’t like haircuts? Yeah, I really fucking don’t. Never fucking again. I will next time show a picture of what I want. I show in between my fingers how much I want. I sit there with a glarrrring eye. I MAKE SURE I GET WHAT I WANT. No Fucking Bad Haircuts Anymore.
I get out and I even give this motherfucking gook a $2 tip after a $15 haircut. Shit fucking place in the middle of nowhere that’s Asian and he’s charging that. And he has the balls to tell me to come back in a few months? I go back in my car, slam my fist on the steering wheel, and race home. I look at the mirror. I punch the wall. I jump in the shower, wash my hair, come out. I scream, I curse, I punch my marble sink. I try to style it a bit and it’s not the worst worst.

April

April 14, 2010
I don’t know what it’s been these days, but I’ve been napping like crazy. I’ve been wanting to study like crazy for the LSATs, but it’s hard to get into the zone. I’ve been waking up at 7:45 for work. I try not to work too much so that I “kill” my day and I already work only 4 days a week anyway. I get home by 4:30 or usually earlier. Then I immediately try to take a nap because otherwise I’m just useless for the rest of the day. However, I set my alarm for an hour and I end up sleeping 2 to 2 and a half hours. Jeez. I’ve been trying to sleep earlier, but I guess I really have to make sure I get at least 7 hours.
I go nap at 5:00 and plan on waking up before 6:00 because I need to add cardio into my workout plan. However, I wake up at 8:20. Motherfucker. However, I at least wake up to dinner because my grandma is back from staying with my aunt. Brown rice, steamed fish (next to chicken with protein, low fat awesomeness), and bok choy. Bam bam bam. Filling, healthy.
Then, it’s onto my workout. Shoulders, pushups, abs. Then onto my cardio. High intensity on the bike.
To treat myself, I have the Green Apple Jones soda that I bought. I should stick to their Splenda stuff. Shit’s like a full bottle and 170 calories of straight sugar. Then again, I’m probably still under my calorie intake for the day anyway, which is around 1600-1700.
Last night, I watched Red Road. This British film about a lady that watches the CCTV cameras and then follows this guy around after it. It’s shot in a very realistic sense with a handheld camera, simple cuts, lack of a soundtrack, etc. It was slow as shit though despite its great style. I didn’t like it.

April 14, 2010
I just watched a film that Atron suggested. The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down. It’s pretty awesome. It’s straight facts. It teaches you how to roll. It’s a really easy watch despite being a shit movie to probably most people. It’s all about LA partying, drinking, smoking weed, rolling chicks, rolling dudes, doing coke, all of it.

April 17, 2010
I take a nap during the afternoon. I wake up and call Corinne because she told me yesterday that she was in the city. We haven't had dinner so we decide to meet up for that. I drive into the city, which is so much more convenient at night or Sunday than taking the train. Well, unless you're planning to get shitfaced or something. I drive over to where she's staying with her mom. Her mom and brother come out to say Hi while the car is standing. We go to Shabu-Tatsu in the East Village for Japanese BBQ and bibimbap instead of our usual ritual of going to Kenka. We don't even have dinner until 11:00ish and it's awesome that the place is open until 1:30. I drop her off afterwards. Early dim sum tomorrow!

April 18, 2010
I head into the city to meet up with Corinne. We head downtown from Columbus Circle with her brother, mother, mother's boyfriend, and his kids. I'm like their Asian tour guide for dim sum. We go through loads of char sui baos. There's also beef in rice noodle, chicken feet, spare rib, different dumplings, etc. The three kiddos weren't adjusted to it and had to stick to chicken fried rice that was ordered off the menu. After that, I drive back and get hit by a bit of traffic. Shit, I don't know why I'm so tired and sleep from 5:30 to 8:30. I grab some dinner and chill out. Erdem and Kenny drop by to say Hi. I'm a bit worried at night because I feel an itch at the back of my throat, which usually signifies a cold.

April 19, 2010
I wake up feeling a bit shitty and sick. At work, I have a sneeze and runny nose. By the time I leave work, I gets real bad and I can barely run my errands. Cosi is supposed to have faux sangria and habanero lemonade today, but they don't have it yet and I have to stick to ice coffee. I have to ship the pull up bar that I bought because it's the one where you have to screw into the door frame. I want the one that goes around the frame. I ordered it today and hopefully it comes soon.
I get home and don't even bother grabbing a bite. I just pass out. Boom, I wake up. Snooze. Snooze. Snooze. It's 9:30. I sleep like 4+ hours.

April 20, 2010
I wake up feeling like shit. I can't get out of bed and I just text my boss at 8:00 that I won't be coming in. I finally wake up at 1:00 and feel a lot better than waking up. However, still sick and shitty. I get up and eat some oatmeal with banana and cinnamon. I sit around for pretty much the whole day and get no studying done. Instead, I get up working out instead. I try running, but that does not work. I want to get dinner, but Erdem backs out. For night plans, he does the same. I guess the man needs his sleep real bad at 10PM.

April 21, 2010
I'm listening to the Eurovision 2010 songs. For those who don't know, it's somewhat like American Idol mixed with the Olympics. Countries send a song/artist to represent them in this contest and it's voted on continent wide. It's sort of a big deal there.

Moldova- A 90s/Euro dance song. Not bad though, quite polished.
Russia- A slow ass sad Soviet tune with that deep Russian voice. So cheesy.
Estonia- Pretty simple. Somewhat contemporary. Good voice.
Slovakia- Meh. Boring.
Finland- Hot chicks, but we really need some polka? Go suck a dick.
Latvia- Not a bad attempt. Too much accordion and it could've used some revampd production.
Serbia- This song is so fucking annoying. My insides want to turn inside out from it.
Bosnia and Herzegovina- A scrawny guy with a weak voice and accent singing a metal ballad. "Thunder and lightning holding hands" is part of the chorus. Need I say more?
Poland- Boring ballad.
Belgium- Wow, this is actually a real song. Like not some bullshit, I could actually imagine this on the Top 40 US. Nothing groundbreaking, but we're not looking for that. Good voice, catchy tune, well written, the guy has his style down. I'm impressed.
Malta- It's like a Celine Dion song. Meh.
Albania- Stolen from a Christina Aguilera song. Still a pop tune and doesn't sound bad.
Greece- Mix a Greek wedding and a fast paced dance song. Oh, and muscly Greek men in tiny vests dancing around.
Portugal- Whitney Houston by a Portuguese chick.
Macedonia- The opposite of what rock should be. Fuck this song sucks.
Belarus- At least it's so-so contempt. Still sucks.
Iceland- Meh, not bad. Fat chick singing an outdated Eurodance song.
Lithuania- Ska-ish. It's weirdish. I don't know what to say about it. The guys in their outfits awkwardly dancing like monkeys is the worst.
Armenia- Meh pop song.
Israel- So sappy. So boring.
Denmark- Blatantly ripped off The Police. Nice job.
Switzerland- Boring song.
Sweden- Ruined a hot blonde chick with shitty music and making her sing like opera.
Azerbaijan-Sort of like Shakira. Meh.
Ukraine- Hits the Evanescence notes, but it's somewhat in between and confused. Song needs focus.
Netherlands- This song is not serious. I'm laughing listening to it.
Romania- A really bad disco song. If people from the 70s wouldn't be impressed, are we supposed to be?
Slovenia- I'm laughing, well not as much, but still laughing.
Ireland- Boring. Meh.
Bulgaria- At least it's more polished than the other Eurodance songs.
Cyprus- Not a bad song, his voice sounds a bit like Rob Thomas.
Croatia- Shut these three up and get them to spread their legs.
Georgia- Yeah it's a "newborn day," wake me up when this song ends.
Turkey- A pussified System of a Down.
Spain- Youtube comments love it and say it'll def be Top 5. I don't know, doesn't do it fo rme. It's different at least.
Norway- So sappy, sounds like a Disney tune.
UK- What is this karaoke business?
France- At least it has a different Eurotrash sound than most songs. It's a decent summer beat.
Germany- Chick is fuckin' hot. Love the song. This better frakin win.

Early April

April 5, 2010
None of the boys from the Great Neck want to go to a Yelp Event in the city so I head there myself and invite Jonah in case he wants to go. He comes along to Tribeca. My Yelp review will be up soon with the deets. Free snacking, with some yummy jalepeno chorizo mac n' cheese. Free drinks, cider, larger, and porter. I go home after the event.

April 6, 2010
I have an event in Brooklyn today as well, but I decide to skip out. I'm way to fucking tired. I have to get to bed at a better time these days if I'm waking up before 8:00 for work. I get home and end up napping from 5:30 until 8:40ish. I wake up even still a bit woozy. I guess boy did I really need some shut eye. I get my ass out of bed and get some working out done. I'm starving since I haven't eaten since work.
My routine these days is:
8:30- 1 serving oatmeal, some cinnamon, half a banana, half scoop whey protein
11:30- Half a can of "lite" soup with 1 serving of beans, some veggies (broccoli and spinach), topped off with some water to fill it up, and hot sauce. A high fiber wrap.
2:30- 1 serving nonfat yogurt, half a banana, half scoop whey protein, half serving Special K protein, half serving shredded wheat

It's pretty "diety," but it keeps me satifsfied during work and keeps protein flowing in me. It makes up for when I "treat" myself on the weekends with going out to eat or any drinking, which I try to keep to a minimum because that is just straight empty calories.
I'm trying to get a bit more intense on my workout these days. 4 sets of knuckle pushups. Various abs exercise throughout. 2-3 sets curls and shoulder with upping and dropping weight. It's not a real workout like at a gym, but I do what I can with my time so I don't have to invest the time and money into a gym. It works for me and how much I'm willing to put into it. You should commit yourself to what you can do instead of push past your tolerance and end up not doing anything.
After sitting around and watching Amazing Race while working out, it's almost 11:00. I'm starved so I get a "big" dinner. 1 portion of chicken (2 tenders, you'd be surprised what a real portion is, think a deck of cards) with some Bold Dash on a pan with no oil. Then I stir fry a portion of whole grain rice (about 1/2 cup cooked), chopped spinach, lotus root, broccoli, and a bit of firm tofu. Soy sauce and hot sauce for taste. Healthy, filling, delicious.

April 7, 2010
It's been forever since I've listened to any music so I decided to go on Pitchfork's Best New and download a bunch of shit.
I start off with Fang Island. It's an indie pop instrumental band. It's not something that I would actively listen to that music, but I'd imagine it's perfect if you're not paying attention and doing some random stuff and just need something fun in the background. Some tracks would be great for a party.
The Morning Benders- Some good ol' indie pop. Reminds me a bit of Grizzly Bear because of their diversity and baroque pop influence.
It got up to fraking 88 degrees today. I want to do barbecue and get something rolling, but Miah's in the city and Erdem feels like he's going to flake out. I'm also in the mood to try making sangria. I've never made it before. It seems simple enough and I just saw it being made in a YouTube video.

April 8, 2010
We're supposed to a BBQ today, but instead we go to 3 Bros. on Bell Blvd. Delicious steak sandwich. Then, we get a mango smoothie at Ralph's ices. Fresh chunks of mango in there, fucking sweet. I watch Skins when I get back, which is so amazing. Reminds me of Freaks and Geeks, but a bit more dramatic and British. Watch it, fucking good.
Then I'm trying to catch up on films so I'm watching Fish Tank, a British drama about this teenage girl living in low class situation.

April 9, 2010
Kenny, Miah, and Erdem are content with hanging at Kenny's playing computer games. Bolanos comes over because we have plans to go to Baker Hill Tavern in town with Avi. We head there and after some beers, we decide that we're starved and want to get some El Rey del Taco in Astoria. Avi drives out there with us getting lost as shit on the way. However, we need to take a pee break and run into a pub. It's actually pretty poppin. Some girls. Lots of people. A DJ playing some music. Cheap drinks. We hang out there for a drink and then head back out looking for the taco truck. We finally find it, but Bolanos and I shout in anger when we see that the truck isn't there. Why isn't it there on a fucking Friday night?! Fuck that shit!
Instead, we go to halal cart. It's the one we usually go to and it's smashing delicious.

April 10, 2010
I spent the day shooting the shit with my German friend, Ela. She's doing au pair in America soon or something. At night, I wanted to do dinner plans, but instead I eat at home. The usual healthy dinner. Brown rice, chicken breast, broccoli, and spinach with hot sauce and salsa.
Bolanos is at dinner and we try to get plans going. Erdem and Kenny are staying in. Avi is sick and staying in. We finally give up and Bolanos drives into the city to hang with Stefan and Jonah. We've been on a banh mi craving forever. Like seriously, I don't have favorites for anything, but right now. Favorite food? Banh fucking mi. BANH FUCKING MI. Fuck me.
We go to International Bar and have some drinks. Jonah and Stefan meet up there. The whiskey and Genesee beer is too good of a deal. The bartender pours that shit real heavy like a legit double. Place is way better deal than Continental.
After that, we have some Pommes Frites craving. We have a small and the four of us split it. However, they're out of pesto mayo and we don't get sauce. Instead, we stick to War sauce. We sit down with some ladies and Stefan works his magic chatting them up. He picks up a number, class job.
Then onto Baoguette. Bolanos and I split a Sloppy and regular Bao. I accidentally tip over a glass and it breaks. Stefan gets a bit of a cut and can't stop bitching. The awesome girl working there gives him ice cream. We get ice cream too. Shit's so fucking good. Then, I decide to stuff myself and split another bao with Stefan. Shit, that's 1 and a half banh mis and ice cream.
Stefan runs into some girl with her boyfriend. He has the balls to get a kiss from her and ask for her number right in front of him. This man is a riot. Bolanos and Jonah just watch this wild man in awe.
After that, we drop him off and head home.

MONTREAL BITCHES!

March 12, 2010
CNF’s leaving for Pittsburgh, so I go into the city blind. People aren’t picking up their phones. I get home at 7:30 and need to make the 8:20. Pick out an outfit. Change. Get some pregaming done. Sweater and coat on. Wallet, keys, iPod, camera, cellphone, cigs. Check. Get a pregaming bottle ready. Run out the door. We have 20 minutes to walk to the station. Run run run! Walk fast!
Call people on the way. I’m blind. People aren’t picking up. I don’t know what the plans are. I just assume things are going to work out. I get into the city and things get figured out. We go to Gobo. I personally had a horrible dish and it took a while, so that sort of slowed down the night.
Unfortunately, Kim didn’t have an ID on her to try to get into Fat Cat. I felt bad that we couldn’t hang out with her and Candace for the night. CNF and I cab to the East Village. I was texting Jill throughout the night because she’s also in the city, but nothing gets happening.
CNF and I go to a bar and chill out. We meet up with Stefan for a second. We run over to Baoguette quickly and catch the 1:19 to get home.

March 13, 2010
At night, we go to get soup dumplings, despite the shitty rain. Evan and CNF are home. We picked up some gin. We go to Alon’s while the kids play Smash Bros. Josh, Kenny, and Doug are there as well. There’s some drinking and cocktail making. My drinks don’t turn out well. Fresh lemon, seltzer, and gin is fine. I don’t need no more than that. We play some poker. That’s about it.

March 20, 2010
Spamps is back from Ithaca. Hasan comes over and he doesn't want to go out for the night. People seem busy and stuff, but Evan turns out to be free. I make sure that shit gets rolling so that we can go to Astoria. We pick up Spamps and then Evan. Scott is getting home a bit later so he meets us there. We end up at Bohemia Garden, but this time we're acutally outside because the weather finally warmed up. We have a few drinks and then move onto Sweet Afton. I wanted to come back for their Pat LaFrieda burger and also their Sweet Tea cocktail.
I get Erdem a drink as well. We then move onto El Rey del Taco. Boy are their tacos good. Scott and Evan already left for home by now instead of meeting us, so we end up leaving too.

March 21, 2010
There's apparently supposed to be a BBQ gathering going on today. People can't plan for shit and even attempt an epic fail at AIM chat. I let the kids soak in their incompetence. We don't get things started for three hours until 8ish and it's with just Spamps and I shopping at the supermarket. We make burgers. I make a salad that gets finished quick fast. We chill there for a while until it's moved to my place. People stay for a little bit and then head home.

March 22, 2010
It’s a food tour day, but with only Miah and I. We drive into the city around 4:00. We go to Prosperity Dumpling. Then I get a belt on Canal. It probably would cost $15 at a “real” story and a belt is just a strip of leather that I can’t see myself spending much on. The same goes for a wallet, but I don’t find out that I really like.
We then go to Banh Mi on Mott Street. Then to Mei Lei bakery for a pork bun. Then Teado for some tea drinks. Then we go to the East Village at night. Evan and Jonah are busy. Miah and I slum around for a while. I try a burger at Mark. Then next to This Little Piggy Had Roast Beef. Had some food and got stuffed like a beast. Read about it at dweez.yelp.com.
At night, Scott, Avi, Candace, Damien, and Kim come buy to chill for a bit.

March 25, 2010
I leave work early and it’s time for my drive to Binghamton to stay the night and leave the morning for MONTREAL. I drop off my mom at JFK for New Orleans. The drive is pretty long to Binghamton. Then again, it really isn’t but I never go on a long distance trip. I stop at Sonic on the way, which is really blegh food. Pennsylvania also doesn’t have a strict no cell policy so I speak to Corinne and Bolanos on the way because listening to the radio and singing along only goes so far.
I arrive to stay at Atron’s place. Murray meets up with us for Lost Dog Café, one of Binghamton’s best restaurants, though that doesn’t say much. We then go back to his place and pregame a bit. We go in between The Rat, a pseudo bar/club and Tom and Marty’s, an Irish dive bar. My pregame went pretty wild and I stopped at one point to grab some late night pizza. I actually liked their crust, though Aaron tells me that it’s shit pizza and that I was drunk.
And boy, Binghamton is awesome. The drinks are cheap as fuck. It’s special’s on Thursday and you get a plastic mug of beer for $2.50. Then, you can order whatever you like. I order a Jack and coke. It’s more like a cup of ice with two shots of Jack Daniels and a splash of coke. That motherfucker was strong as the Hulk. I also get to meet the two girls from Atron’s frat that we’re going with to Montreal. I get pretty bombed and make an inappropriate drunk dial involving the words “naked” and “boobs” dozens of times. Classy man.

March 26, 2010
We wake up at 9:00 for our departure. Claudia and Erin are in the front for the drive. Murray, Atron, and I are in the back. After some breakfast, we back our 5-6 hour drive. We’re supposed to get there by 5:00, but we get lost when the GPS gives up working on us and we drive around like chickens with their heads cut off. We finally get to the destination around 7:00. Their hotel is downtown and it feels sort of like a mini-NYC’s 5th Ave.
We go their touristy downtown area and find some random restaurant. We hadn’t eaten since 9:00 that morning. People were famished. After that, we go back to the hotel to pregame for the nightlife. Us boys have a bottle of Red Label Johnny Walker to go through. We leave at 11:00ish for Crescent Ave., which is their touristy area and nightlife. We look around and find a place that let us in because we’re Americans. There’s no cover, but a coat check cover. Aaron’s drink is weak as hell. The place is actually really empty though we get to meet a man named Frank “Barrio.” He’s French Canadian.
On a sidenote: Montreal is in Quebec. Their official language is French. Signs are in French. The people speak it. You’re not in Canada where people are just pretending to be American, you’re actually in a different country.
Anyway, our boy Frank is a silly French man. He’s wearing a silly shirt that has two thumbs pointing to his face that reads, “Ladies Love This Guy.” He’s French. He’s funny. He’s drunk. He wants us to add him on Facebook. It sounds like “Mario,” but it’s spelt “b a r i e x s t r x z a.” Actually, we don’t remember how it was spelt, but all we know is that it’s confusing as shit.
After standing around the empty dance floor for a bit, I decide that I should take a cab to my friend Oceane’s place where I’m staying. She apparently waited for me at her train station because I thought I would get in earlier. I also turned off my phone because of the roaming. She didn’t want to go out and I didn’t want to keep her up so I split with the boys at 12:30, grab my shit at the hotel, leave their keys, and take a cab to her apartment. We catch up on things, watch Slumdog Millionaire until real late when I pass out.

Atron wakes up and gives me a call. I ride the metro to the hotel. I meet them for brunch. The place is called “Eggspectation” and is a breakfast/brunch place. The place is pretty delicious and busy. Then again, their fire alarm is going off and they ran out of water. We are so thirsty from the salty breakfast and they have to close down the restaurant after that issue, while we still have to deal with not having water.
Then, we walk around and go to their “underground” mall. It’s fucking huge. We hang out there for a bit and then I pass out for a nap in the hotel while the kids have a drink. For dinner, we go to another area in search for something more authentic than the touristy downtown area.
We go to St. Laurient. We find a restaurant called Jano, which has some pretty decent cred looking at the articles on the inside. It’s Portuguese with grilled meats. After that, we go back to chill out and pregame a bit. This time, we do wine because we’re out of Red Label. Oceane had plans to come out, but she didn’t want to. We take a cab to the St. Laurient area and find out a hella lot of clubs. There are loads of lines and I’ve really never seen such a concentration of people for nightlife.
Unfortunately, we find out that all the clubs need you to be on the guestlist. Us naive Americans did not know of this and we’re pretty stranded. Instead, we go to this awesome Irish pub. No line. No pretentiousness. No guest list. Done deal.
There’s an amazing band playing. I immediately order a shot and beer and scream out some Janis Joplin while singing along to the band. After walking around in the cold and bored, this pub suddenly became cloud nine.
After an hour or so, I take a cab to Oceane’s because I again didn’t want to keep her up waiting for me.

March 28, 2010
I wake up and it’s the same routine. Oceane’s busy today with her friend, but she said she’d get dinner later. I owe her at least something for letting me stay for the weekend. I meet with the group and we go to brunch at the Old Montreal area. It’s a shit lunch at a small café. We then walk around where I end up buying a children’s size “FBI Feminine Body Inspector” t-shirt. I then try glaces, which is basically their version of ice cream or gelator or something.
We then move back to the hotel. Murray, Atron, and I split up from the girls. We try some Burger King poutine. It’s meh. Poutine by the way is delcious. Fries, gray, cheese. It’s one hell of a combination. We go back to the hotel and chill out. We then go to Chinatown, which is actually pretty legit, though nothing like NYC. However, it’s Sunday night and it’s dead as hell. We go to a bubble tea lounge that’s for younger people. Murry, Atron, and I meet up with Oceane and have dinner there. We then go for a boys’ night out.
We get back and start pregaming the Captain Morgan that we bought. However, Atron and I beast it out and we realized that a liter is not enough for three of us. We move out and find a strip club despite me not really being interested. We get charged a cover and then the bouncer hustles us for a $2 tip. It’s pretty silly. We also have to pay for an expensive beer and the girls try to get a lap dance for us. They’re onto our cheap ways and we eventually leave. We find a place in St. Denis. Cheap pitchers and actually quite a few people, despite it raining. By then, I’m drunk. Atron’s real drunk.
After stopping myself into the second huge pitcher that seemed to have infinite beers, we walked finally to La Basquise, a famous poutine place that Anthony Bourdain visited. We go through two plates of it while Atron is mighty shitfaced.
We take a cab back and Atron is passed out in it. Murray and I stand outside for a cigarette. However, we lost Atron and really hope he got lost. When we go up, we find out that he somehow slipped away and simply passed out with his face down and all his clothes still on. I end up staying on the floor because Oceane has class in the morning.

March 29, 2010
I don’t know about Atron, but I’m pretty hungover as fuck. However, it’s a long drive and after breakfast, some water, and sleep, I’m feeling okay. We get there at night. Murray and I stay over at Atron’s until we leave tomorrow. A long driving day.

March 30, 2010
We wake up and it’s time to move out. We drive through the shit rain and it’s a long while. I drop Murray in the Bronx and Atron at home. Good thing there wasn’t traffic for me to deal with. I get home by 5:00ish at least.

March

March 2, 2010
My diet has been going well. I got to keep up the protein in my diet. Lets go with yesterday. I eat many meals, which is good.
1 serving plain oatmeal, 1 tblsp honey, cinnamon, half scoop whey protein
Large ice coffee, whole milk, Equal
1 serving non fat plain yogurt, half serving low fat granola, half scoop whey
Half can of light Campbell’s Select, 1 serving beans
Bok choy, ½ serving steamed chicken
Half serving rice, steamed veg, ½ serving chicken
I’m down to 130ish these days. This from 139 in beginning of fall. I’ve also put on muscle other than just losing weight. I keep pics for personal update on how I’m doing.

March 5, 2010
Hasan backs out on going into the city. I pregame and Miah comes over. We walk over to take the 9:20. We meet Stefan, CNF, Jonah, Atron, and Kenny at Village Pourhouse. I try to get people moving. We finally move until International Bar. Not bad and cheap as hell. Then we move again to Crif Dogs. We can’t get into PDT. We walk around and meet at a bar. We then walk around like crazy. We run into like 4-5 bars and shit’s dead so we just stay at Hop Devil. Our baneee!
Anyway, Miah Kenny and I run into Brandon at LIRR because he came from Boston. We take the 3:20 train and we walk back. A long night.

March 6, 2010
It’s Miah’s 22nd at 12 tonight. We plan on going to soup dumplings. However, we end up picking up Elena and CNF and going to Arepas Café with Kenny, Hasan, and Miah. A mighty yummy meal.
We then go to Sweet Afton, which is loaded with older people so we end up leaving. We then go to Bohemian Hall Beer Garden, which is apparently our new spot. Atron meets with us. We hang there, while there’s some stuff with Elena and an old Spainard. Long story.
Candace comes and we coordinate going to a dive bar that’s doing karaoke. However, the place is pretty dead. I’m cool with drunk karaoke, but people are too sober and hate it. We then get some ridiculously good tacos at El Rey del Taco. We then go home. I’m really tired and pass out.

End of Feb

February 27, 2010
Aaron texts me that him and CNF are coming back next weekend for their grandparents. We’re going to do a classy lunch at Jean Georges or Eleven Madison Park. He asks about a dress code. I say that it’s a bit serious. Not suit and tie, but bizz cas. He asks if “tigger” is allowed. I don’t get the joke until I finally get reminded of the time that we went out for Scott’s birthday in the city. Jeremiah was wearing an orange Tigger shirt. Yes, the character from Winnie the Pooh.
Atron shows me a picture that is classic. The white shorts are enough to get me smiling. Rolled up socks. It doesn’t stop. It’s also weird with him, CNF, and Bolanos in the background dressed up.
Sorry, I don’t mean to be a hater. I hope it’s just a harmless laugh I’m trying to have. And hey, I’ve never seen that shirt again. Good job!
Before going out, I put my computer in front of my exercise bike. I go on for 1 hour even though it’s hard to get your heartbeat in the “zone” doing that. Running is better, but it’s cooold. We make dinner plans to go to Little Pepper in Flushing. Read my review on dweez.yelp.com.
After that, it’s before 8:00 and we decide to go to Astoria. It’s a night to get drunk, so I buy a bottle of whiskey. Miah has some. Hasan has to drive. I have half Diet Dr Pepper and half whiskey while we’re at the hookah bar. Boy is that a stiff drink. I get a good buzz going while sketchy drinking at that place. The hookah is a great combo with that drunk buzz I got going.
At 10-11:00, we move onto Beer Garden. I immediately run into a order shots of Becherovka. If you’ve never had this Czech liquor, get some immediately. It’s cinnamon and gingerbread or a “Christmas” shot. Derrricious.
Then onto a Czech pilsner, Staropramen. Hasan and I go out for a cigarette and a girl goes out asking for a night. For some reason, I get the random compliment that I look like a “little model.” I’ll take that as a compliment. What am I going to do that I’m short other than look amazing?
I end up getting her cute friends Rachel and Stefanie. We hang out for a bit. I end up playing the “what’s different between these two images” game, which is annoying because I suck at it. I pick up a number, but they’re from Jersey drinking away that two of them broke up with their b/fs. They end up leaving. We leave soon after. They get cart, but I avoid because I’m on a diet. There’s a dumb bet where Hasan thinks there are zero restaurants in the city with three Michelin stars. He loses $30. Nice job.

February!!

January 30, 2010
Jenn’s back from Seoul, though she’s back at school. I tell her that she has a lot of stuff to fill me in on and I tease her with some of the shit that’s been going on here. Come to think of it, there has been quite a few fun stories.
Haven’t really been doing much these days. Chilling with the dudes here and there. Corinne was in the city the past two days so we hung in the city. Tonight is Kenny’s b-day, so I guess we’ll see what happens.
I’m really disappointed that I haven’t hit up restaurant week yet. However, they don’t do Saturdays, which messed things up because I made ressies earlier in the week and didn’t realize. Tomorrow is a meh day because restaurants have to go out of their way to participate on Sundays. Also, it’s the day before so I can’t reservations. Hopefully something will work out soon.

February 2, 2010
Work has been the usual. It’s pretty awesome that I’ve gotten tutoring duties for my boss’ son here and there. It pays $25 off the books, which is ridic. I only do a few hours a week though.
I haven’t been really getting good sleep recently, only 5 hours for the past few nights. This is coming from someone who tries to be responsible.
The diet is going well. My new thing is soup. It barely has fat. It has protein in the stock, the meat, and beans. It fills you up through the liquid and vegetables. The only issue is the pasta I put in, but that isn’t bad since it’s only a fraction of what you’d eat from any straight pasta dish. The soup itself doesn’t actually have a fair amount of pasta if you think of it that way.
For the rest of the week, I’m excited for hitting up Restaurant Week. We’ll see how that goes. Also, Bolanos is visiting for the J Dilla tribute in Brooklyn with Tim and Sam, so that sounds like a cool weekend.
I’m watching loads of TV as usual. Nothing exceptional is on though.
I’ve been listening to Howard Stern/YouTubing (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 gameplays for some reason though. Dunno why I’m intrigued, but it’s way too much investment to get into that)/Hulu. It’s been so long since I’ve listened to music. I tried today.
The Animal Collective is interesting, but I got tired of it quickly. Maybe it needs more listens. The xx album is pretty good. Despite loving “big” sounds like baroque pop, I do enjoy how the band utilizes minimalism. I tried The Revolution by Miranda Lambert. The critics cream over it. I’m not really sure why though. I can listen to it because it’s poppy country music. Well, at least not to the point of Taylor Swift at least, even though I do enjoy my Taylor.
I need to find new stuff to listen to.

February 14, 2010
Jenn apparently was home for the weekend, but we haven’t really spoken and we didn’t get to catch up.
Erdem, Miah, and I have to gone to Bohemian Beer Garden twice this weekend. Last night, a fucking guy was laying on the table and his friends were there. Then he leans over and starts vomiting on the ground. Miah and I are sitting at a corner table. I get a wiff and fuck this man. I feel a bit of gagging and I split the fuck out of there.

February 19, 2010
At night, Hasan and I drive in to meet Stefan for dinner at One if by Night, Two if by Sea. Best meal I’ve ever had. It was just amazing. Read it on my Yelp bitches.
Evan backs out on the night like expected. The three of us go to the Continental for shots. Then we go to Village Pourhouse where Stefan works some game. He looks at this girl’s bag and sorta asks her about it, but she’s like wtf. He also asks the bartender about arm crossing and she’s like wtf. Hasan and I are looking away and suddenly he is chatting up this girl.
He stays there doing that while Hasan and I leave for the Irish pub on St. Marks. We end up leaving by 2:00 and Stefan is still getting his business down.

February 20, 2010
Candace texted me early on that she’s going to Stout tonight. Hasan comes over and we decide to go. I pregame a bunch and we meet Avi at the GN station. We go in and head immediately to Stout, which is so close to Penn. There’s singing, there’s chain smoking, and whatever business.
Hasan wants to take the 1:19, but Avi brings us along to Spin, a ping pong bar/lounge. Hasan and I play two games for monies. We meet his friend Simon who drives us around. We eventually go downtown for a bite. Crif Dogs and Pommes Frites have really long lines. We’re stuck with shitting fuckin falafel at Mamoun’s instead. Blegh.
Days later, Hasan finds a Spin ping pong ball in his car and asks when we went to play ping pong. I start laughing really hard. Apparently, he barely remembers that part of the night. He remembers leaving Stout and going to Mamoun’s, but apparently has barely any recollection of gambling on ping pong with me.

February 23, 2010
Jenn is back for a long weekend. Kenny and I meet her for dinner in town. Good times catching up the issues back home and the trip over abroad.
